For the past five decades, Dr. Philip I. Eliasoph has been a pillar of artistic and intellectual engagement, civic discourse, and academic excellence at Fairfield University. Since joining the College of Arts and Sciences faculty in the fall of 1975, he has played a pivotal role in shaping and expanding the Visual and Performing Arts Department. His contributions extend beyond the classroom—he was instrumental in launching the study-abroad program in Florence, he co-founded the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, and he served as the founding director of the Walsh Gallery. In 2023, Dr. Eliasoph was appointed Special Assistant to the President for Arts & Culture, where he advises Dr. Nemec on strategies to enhance the University’s reputation as a leading destination for arts and culture while attracting top students with a passion for the arts.
