The Leaders for Environmental Action at Fairfield (LEAF) is a large, motivated club of over 70 students dedicated to protecting the environment – and that effort starts at home. The Lantern Point area of Fairfield Beach accumulates heavy litter during student events, and our club has been cleaning up every week, but we need a more effective solution. Inspired by previous efforts led by the late First Selectman William Gerber, we’re looking to set up a series of temporary nets to collect beach trash and prevent it from entering Long Island Sound.
Before each Fairfield University student event on Fairfield Beach, LEAF members will install mesh nets and fence posts about 15 feet from the shoreline. After the event ends, we will remove the nets and the trash caught within this area. Your support will let us use high quality materials which can be reused for years to come.
Together, we can create a legacy of environmental stewardship from Leaders for Environmental Action at Fairfield and improve relations with the residents and administration of the Town of Fairfield.
