Fairfield students across disciplines credit Dr. Philip Eliasoph—affectionately known as “Dr. E.”—with inspiring their academic and personal growth through Art History and the Open VISIONS Forum, known as the “classroom without walls.”

Credited among many for having “brought arts and culture to Fairfield County”, Dr. Eliasoph has left an indelible mark through his remarkable contributions to the life of the mind at Fairfield University. His most outstanding achievement was the creation of the Open VISIONS Forum (OVF) in 1997.

The Series is being renamed the Philip I. Eliasoph Open VISIONS Forum in honor of his 50th anniversary at Fairfield, a lasting tribute to his visionary leadership and dedication to free inquiry, critical thinking, and cultural enrichment.

For nearly three decades, OVF has brought nationally acclaimed speakers to campus through this ambitious lecture series, which has become a cornerstone of public dialogue and lifelong learning for the Fairfield community. Last year only, over 1,200 Fairfield University students participated in the Forum, deepening their understanding of the world through conversations that promote reflection, critical thinking, and diverse perspectives.

We invite you to make a gift in honor of Dr. Eliasoph to help sustain and grow the Forum’s legacy. Your support will bring world-class speakers to campus, enrich student learning, and enhance the Forum’s flexibility to respond to emerging opportunities, allowing us to invite the most timely, relevant, and impactful voices to our stage.
